Why It Matters
Why Bedding for Hot Sleepers Matters All Year Round
Bedding affects sleep quality by influencing skin conditions, body temperature and thermal comfort. Studies have shown that different fibre types used in bedding significantly impact sleep quality (p≤0.05, probability of random error≤5%).
Our body continues to sweat during sleep, especially in summer. If your fabric can’t conduct heat and water vapour well, moisture will build up around the body.
Research shows that when the relative humidity under the covers rises above 75%, discomfort increases. This disturbs sleep and reduces your amount of deep sleep.
Choose cooling bedding to relieve sticky, muggy discomfort,
focus on the following measured performances
instead of vague claims in their declaration.

Air Permeability
It describes the rate of air passing through under a set pressure difference. It shows how easily trapped warm air can escape from under the covers.
The higher the value, the more airflow and the greater the breathability.
A study measured the air permeability of 100% linen, 100% cotton and 50% linen/50% cotton fabrics. Linen exhibits superior air permeability relative to cotton. Blending reduces air permeability because of bigger fabric density.
Millimetres per second (mm/s)
Higher is more breathable. Measured under standard atmospheric conditions to ASTM D737. Source: Ssegwanyi et al., International Journal of Scientific Research and Engineering Development, 2025.
Thermal conductivity
Linen has a polygonal cross section with a clear, narrow hollow centre. This creates smoother paths for heat to move through. Linen can carry body heat away more quickly.
The structure of cotton is denser and more flattened. Their pores are narrow and uneven. In humid conditions, people can feel damp and sticky. It also releases heat less efficiently.

Bamboo Sheets for Hot Sleepers: Bamboo Lyocell
The coolest first touch in our collection: smooth, almost glassy, like hotel sheets in a cool room.
| Fibre | Thermal Conductivity | Thermal Resistance | Air Permeability | Water Vapor Resistance | Moisture Regain | Surface Friction Coefficient | Key Tradeoffs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bamboo Lyocell | 0.049 | 15.2 | 695 (dry) | 2.5 | 13.0 | ~0.25 | less durable than synthetics |
| Organic Cotton | 0.031 | 19.0 | 695 (dry) | 2.8 | 8.5 | ~0.3 | moderate durability |

Notes
- Thermal conductivity: Higher values enhance cooling.
- Thermal resistance: Higher values indicate better insulation.
- Air permeability: Higher values reflect better breathability.
- Water vapor resistance: Lower values indicate better moisture management.
- Moisture regain: Higher percentages for better moisture absorption, reducing wetness.
- Surface friction coefficient: Lower values for smoother fabrics.

Most bamboo bedding is viscose: chemical pollution for the environment and worse performance.
Sensoire's is lyocell, spun from organically grown bamboo in a closed-loop process. It feels gentle against sensitive skin and is straightforward to machine wash. If you sleep in a cooled room and want the coolest, most effortless surface in the house, start here.

Mulberry Silk for Hot Sleepers
Mulberry silk is a natural, sustainable fibre. The fibroin protein in silk contains water loving groups that can bind with water molecules. It absorbs sweat from the skin and helps create a dry, comfortable sleep environment.
At comparable low surface densities shown in a study, silk had higher air permeability and moisture permeability than cotton.
| Fabric | Breathability | Moisture vapour transmission |
|---|---|---|
| Silk | 496.10 mm/s | 337.86 g/(m²·h) |
| Cotton | 170.59 mm/s | 294.88 g/(m²·h) |
Honestly, for heat release alone, we suggest linen or bamboo lyocell ahead of silk.
The Cooler Bed, Layer By Layer
Build Cooling Bedding for Hot Sleepers in Three Moves
A cooler bed usually begins with three simple changes, in this order.
Each layer is made with the same attention to comfort and quality.

01
Start With the Best Sheets
- Change the layer that touches you first.
- Bamboo lyocell for the coolest first touch.
- Linen for airflow that holds up all night.

02
Lighten the Duvet
- Replace heavy fills.
- Sensoire summer silk fill at 180 g/m².
- Lighter covering to help heat escape.

03
Finish With a Silk Pillowcase
- Around a third of life is spent here.
- Smooth, dry feeling surface for hair and skin.

FAQs About Gifts for Hot Sleepers
What are the best gifts for hot sleepers?
Useful bedding gifts include breathable linen sheets, smooth bamboo lyocell sheets, a lightweight silk duvet, and a silk pillowcase. Choose the gift by the sleeper's room conditions and preferred feel.
What sheet material is best for hot sleepers?
Linen and bamboo lyocell suit different needs. Linen emphasizes airflow and moisture release, while bamboo lyocell offers a cool, smooth first touch and straightforward machine care.
Are linen sheets good for hot sleepers?
Yes. Linen’s air permeability helps trapped warm air move through the bedding. Its crisp texture also softens with repeated washing.
Are bamboo sheets good for hot sleepers?
Bamboo lyocell sheets can be a practical choice for hot sleepers who prefer a smooth surface and easy care. Check that the fabric is lyocell rather than relying on a general bamboo label.
Are silk sheets good for hot sleepers?
Silk offers a smooth, non-clinging surface and can help manage moisture. For heat release alone, this guide favors linen or bamboo lyocell, while silk works well as a pillowcase or a lightweight summer duvet.
