The Sensoire mulberry silk duvet is filled by hand with 100% Grade 6A double-cocoon, long-strand mulberry silk. Light and breathable, it balances summer freshness with winter warmth, without the weight of down. With proper care, it is made to last for 15 to 20 years.

The Silk Fill

The fill is 100% Grade 6A double-cocoon mulberry silk, formed when two silkworms spin a single cocoon together. Its naturally intertwined filaments create a fuller, more resilient loft. Drawn into long strands and layered by hand, the silk stays evenly distributed and free of cold spots. Breathable, temperature-regulating, naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites.

The Cotton Shell

The silk rests in an 80s, or Ne 80, pure cotton sateen shell at 400 thread count, woven in a classic 4 over 1 structure and finished in white with black piping. Its smooth surface has a fluid drape and soft sheen. Use a duvet cover to protect the silk; eight ties around the perimeter keep the duvet secure inside it.

02 Key Features +
  • Fill: 100% Grade 6A long-strand mulberry silk (double-cocoon)
  • Shell: 80s pure cotton sateen, 400TC, 4-over-1 weave, white with black piping
  • Properties: Breathable, temperature-regulating, hypoallergenic
  • Sizes: 140x200 cm to 260x240 cm
  • Weights: Summer 180 g/m², Mid-season 320 g/m², Winter 500 g/m², Four-season 180 + 320 g/m² (two duvets combine to 500)
  • Certification: OEKO-TEX® Standard 100
03 Duvet care +

The silk contains Sericin, a natural protein that resists allergens and discourages microbial growth. Water and high heat break these protections down and make the silk clump, so the duvet itself is never washed. Always sleep with a duvet cover over it and wash only the cover.

  • Always use a duvet cover and wash the cover, not the duvet
  • Never machine wash, soak or tumble dry the silk duvet
  • Sun freshen the duvet 1 to 2 times a year
  • Do not bleach or wring the silk
  • Spot clean small marks with cold water, do not soak
  • Keep the silk away from high heat
  • Air the duvet outdoors to refresh its loft
  • For a deep clean, use a specialist silk dry cleaner

Grade 6A Fill

Double-Cocoon Silk

Loft that holds, season after season.

Most silk cocoons are spun by a single silkworm. Double-cocoon mulberry silk forms when two silkworms spin one cocoon together, creating naturally intertwined filaments with a fuller, more resilient loft. The result is supple warmth with lasting spring.

Long-strand mulberry silk drawn by hand

Up to 1,200 Metres

Long-Strand Mulberry Silk

One unbroken thread, never a cold gap.

Each mulberry silk filament can extend up to 1,200 metres. Drawn by hand into long, continuous sheets, the fill forms a soft, breathable web that stays evenly arranged inside the duvet. The warmth feels light, close and fluid around the body.

80-Count Pure Cotton

Pure Cotton Sateen Shell

A shell as quiet as the silk inside.

The shell is woven from long-staple cotton with a yarn count of Ne 80, a smooth sateen finish and clean black piping. Cool and breathable against the skin, it has a fine, dry touch and stays quiet as you move through the night.

Silk and cotton meet in stitching set by hand. Each line holds the fill evenly while preserving its loft, with the restraint and precision of considered craft.

Mulberry silk duvet made entirely by hand

Lasts 15 to 20 Years

Made Entirely by Hand

Hand-pulled, hand-layered, made to last.

Each layer of silk floss is stretched and cross-laid by hand, building an even loft that stays in place. This slower method preserves the continuity of the long fibres. With proper care, a Sensoire silk duvet is made to sleep beautifully for 15 to 20 years. A discreet opening lets you see and feel the silk inside.

Dust-Mite & Allergy Resistant

Clean by Nature

Pure protection, gentle on skin.

Mulberry silk creates a clean, gentle sleep environment. Its smooth protein fibres are naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, with very little static to attract dust. The result is a fresh, calm surface for sensitive skin, without added chemical treatments.

How a Sensoire Silk Duvet Is Made

A silk duvet looks quiet and simple: a pale shell, a soft outline, a light layer resting over the body. What shapes its feel, its even loft and the way it holds together lies inside.

Eight steps, from hand-stretched long-strand mulberry silk to cross-layering, shell selection and final inspection.

What The Fibre Does

A Fibre That Releases Heat

Each bar reflects the figure shown. Mulberry silk is a protein fibre composed mainly of fibroin, with sericin surrounding the filaments in raw silk. Its fine filament structure creates small air spaces, supporting a balance of warmth and breathability as temperatures change.

Where The Moisture Goes

Your body gives off heat and moisture all night. Dense synthetics hold both against the skin, and that trapped damp is what wakes you feeling muggy.

Silk can absorb moisture vapour and release it as conditions change. The surface feels drier and less clammy through the night, rather than holding damp against the skin.

Silk Duvet, Answered

What is double-cocoon (doupion) mulberry silk?

Double-cocoon, also known as doupion, silk forms when two silkworms spin one cocoon together. Its intertwined filaments create a fuller, more resilient floss, giving the fill lasting loft and spring.

What is the difference between long-strand and short-strand silk fill?

Short-strand fill is made from shorter lengths of silk floss, which can shift, clump and leave thinner, cooler areas over time. Mulberry silk filaments can reach up to 1,200 metres; this describes the filament length, not the size of a finished sheet of filling. Our long-strand silk is drawn into continuous sheets and layered by hand to form an even, breathable web that stays in place.

What is the shell made of, and can I add a duvet cover?

The shell is 80s pure cotton sateen at 400 thread count, breathable, soft and quiet, finished with black piping, with a short concealed opening so you can inspect the silk inside. We recommend always using a washable duvet cover, fastened at the corners, so the silk stays in place and rarely needs cleaning.

Will the silk shift or bunch inside the duvet?

No. The long-strand silk is opened and cross-laid by hand into an even web, then held by lines of hand-set stitching placed to secure the fill without compressing it into cold channels. The silk stays evenly spread from corner to corner rather than migrating to one side, and the eight or more cover ties keep the duvet itself from travelling inside your duvet cover.

Is this duvet really handmade, and where is it made?

Yes, entirely by hand, in Suzhou, China, the historic home of mulberry silk, where the fibre has been reeled and woven for centuries. This duvet is made by a long-standing partner to our specification: whole double cocoons are sorted by hand, boiled in spring water with plant ash rather than chemical degumming agents, opened by hand into silk caps, dried in soft daylight, then stretched by four artisans into layer after layer of continuous silk and held inside the 80s cotton sateen shell with hand-set stitching. No machine-shredded floss, no bleaching. Each finished duvet is checked before it leaves, and any fault in the making is covered by our 14-day returns.

How can I check the silk myself?

Unzip the discreet opening at the edge and look. Long-strand silk lies in wide, continuous, pearl-white sheets that hold together when you lift them. Chopped short floss or a blend looks lumpy, separates between your fingers and clumps after a season. Real silk also has a faint, clean scent from sericin, the cocoon's own protein, which fades with airing. Two things should be stated on any silk duvet you consider: the fill weight in g/m², and an independent certificate. Ours carries OEKO-TEX Standard 100. A price that looks too good is usually the third clue.

Is a silk duvet good for hot sleepers?

Yes. Silk is naturally breathable and temperature-regulating; it wicks moisture and releases heat instead of trapping it, so you sleep warm without overheating. The lightweight summer weight (180 g/m²) suits hot sleepers and warmer bedrooms especially well.

Is silk hypoallergenic and safe for allergies or asthma?

Yes. Mulberry silk is naturally hypoallergenic and resists dust mites, mould and mildew. It also contains sericin, a natural protein associated with fewer allergic reactions. Our fill is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, tested free from harmful substances, so it is gentle on sensitive skin.

How warm is it, and which weight should I choose?

Sensoire comes in three weights plus a four-season set. The summer weight (180 g/m²) is light and cool for warm nights; the mid-season weight (320 g/m²) carries you through spring, autumn and milder winters; the winter weight (500 g/m²) is made for cold bedrooms. The four-season set pairs the 180 and 320 duvets, which tie together into a 500 g/m² winter layer. Choose by the temperature of your bedroom rather than the season alone. Sizes run from 140x200 cm to 260x240 cm.

What tog do these weights correspond to?

Silk is measured by fill density in g/m², also written gsm, rather than by tog. As a close equivalent, Summer 180 g/m² is about 2.5 to 4.5 tog, Mid-season 320 g/m² about 6 to 9 tog, Winter 500 g/m² about 10 to 13 tog, and the Four-season pair tied together about 12 to 13.5 tog. Treat those figures as a guide for comparison, not a specification. Tog measures insulation on its own and says nothing about how a fibre handles moisture, which is why two duvets rated at the same tog can feel very different by morning.

Can two of us sleep under different weights in the same bed?

Yes, and it is usually the simplest answer when one of you runs warm and the other runs cold. Put two single duvets on one bed, each in its own weight, for example Summer 180 g/m² for the warm sleeper and Mid-season 320 g/m² for the cooler one. It is the ordinary arrangement across Scandinavia. A shared bedspread laid over the top keeps the bed looking whole by day.

I am switching from a down duvet. What changes?

Three things, mostly. There are no quills, so nothing works its way through the shell and pricks you in the night. The fill does not drift, so you will not wake to everything gathered at one end and a cold gap at the other. And silk sits closer: the same warmth arrives as a thinner layer that follows your shoulders rather than doming above them. What does not change is the cover. Dress it as you would any duvet, and wash the cover rather than the duvet.

Can I wash a silk duvet in the machine?

No. Never machine wash or tumble dry the silk fill, as water and agitation mat the fibres, degrade the silk and shorten its life. Protect it with a washable duvet cover and wash only the cover. The silk itself needs only airing and the occasional spot clean.

How do I care for and freshen my silk duvet?

Air the duvet outdoors in gentle sunlight for about an hour on each side, once or twice a year, to refresh the fill's loft. Spot-clean small marks with a little cold water, without soaking the silk. For a deeper clean, use a dry cleaner experienced in caring for silk duvets. Protected by a washable duvet cover, the duvet itself rarely needs cleaning.

My new duvet has a faint smell. Is that normal?

Yes, and it is harmless. A faint natural scent comes from sericin, the silk's own protein, not from any chemical treatment. Air the duvet for a few days and it fades, usually within a couple of weeks.

Does it have corner ties, and which duvet cover size do I need?

Yes. There are ties at each corner and eight or more around the duvet in total, so it stays put inside your cover instead of sliding down through the night. For the cover, match the duvet size or go a centimetre or two larger. A much larger cover lets the duvet travel; a smaller one flattens the loft at the edges. Sizes run 135 x 200, 140 x 200, 155 x 220, 160 x 210, 200 x 200, 200 x 220, 240 x 220 and 260 x 240 cm, so most standard covers have a direct match.

Which duvet cover should I use, and does the cover change how cool it sleeps?

It changes it more than most people expect. Heat and moisture leaving the duvet have to pass through the cover, so a cover that breathes lets the silk do its work, and one that does not can leave you in a pocket of heat under the very same duvet. Choose a breathable cover in a natural or plant-based fibre: linen, silk, our bamboo lyocell, cotton percale or cotton sateen. Avoid polyester, microfibre and polycotton, which hold heat and damp against you. If a duvet that felt cool on its own suddenly feels warm, look at the cover first. A cover also keeps the silk clean and the duvet in place, held by ties at each corner and eight or more around the edge.

How do I store the duvet out of season?

Air it first, then store it dry. Give it an hour each side in gentle sunlight, let it cool, and fold it loosely into the satin storage bag it arrived in, which keeps dust off without sealing the silk in. Keep it in a dry cupboard away from heat, damp and direct light. It can be pressed down a little to save space, by up to about 40% of its full loft, but never vacuum-packed flat: long-strand silk holds its loft because the layers are stretched open, and months of full compression flatten them. When the season turns, shake it out and hang it for an afternoon and the loft returns. The 4 Seasons pair makes this simple, since one layer is always in use and only the other is stored.

Been using this duvet now for 4 nights and find it the perfect weight on my body and the temperature regulation has been excellent, I can vary between feeling too cold and hot but this hasn’t been a problem so far. Will be interesting to see how it looks after cleaning when the time comes.
Had a small issue with my order (my fault) and found the customer service excellent too.
Very happy with my purchase and bought it when there was an offer code available.
