La fibre
Our cashmere comes from the Hanshan white cashmere goat of Chifeng, in Inner Mongolia. Through the long grassland winter the goats grow a fine, downy undercoat beneath their outer hair. In spring it is combed away by hand, a little from each animal.
That undercoat is the whole of this throw. Each fibre is far finer than a human hair and holds a pocket of still air, which is why cashmere gives about three times the warmth of sheep's wool for the same weight. The knit feels light and soft against the skin while keeping warmth close to the body.

Four-Ply Cable Knit
Four strands of cashmere are twisted into one yarn and knitted into deep, raised cables with ribbed edges. The throw holds its shape, lies neatly when folded, and drapes softly over the arm of a chair.

Cashmere is the fine, downy undercoat that cashmere goats grow in winter and shed in spring. Ours comes from the Hanshan white cashmere goat raised around Chifeng, in Inner Mongolia, where the cold, dry grassland winters produce a particularly fine fibre. The throw is knitted from 100% cashmere, with nothing else blended in.
Yes. The yarn is four strands of pure cashmere twisted together, then knitted into raised cables. Many throws sold as cashmere are blends with wool or synthetics; this one is cashmere only, knitted at 720 grams per square metre, which is why it feels substantial yet soft rather than scratchy against the skin.
It is a throw sized for one person: long enough to wrap around the shoulders on the sofa or to cover the legs in a reading chair, and the right width to fold across the foot of a double or king bed as a finishing layer. It is not a bed blanket and is not meant to cover a full mattress.
Hand wash in cool water with a gentle wool detergent, or have it dry cleaned. Do not wring, bleach or tumble dry. Press the water out between towels and dry flat away from direct heat and sunlight. Between washes, airing the throw for an afternoon is usually all it needs.
A little, in the first weeks. Loose fibres on the surface roll into small pills where the throw rubs, and this settles once they have worked free. Lift them gently with a cashmere comb rather than pulling. Store the throw folded, not hung, so the knit keeps its shape.
Cashmere gives about three times the warmth of sheep's wool for the same weight, so a cashmere throw can be lighter and still warmer, and it feels softer against bare skin, which makes it the choice for a throw you wrap around yourself. Wool is sturdier, holds up to harder use and costs less, which suits a bed blanket or a throw for a busy family room. If you want something to reach for every evening, choose cashmere.
