Silk Bedding Set Buying Guide: What’s Included, Sizes and Momme
Shopping for a silk bedding set can be confusing. Different products may include different items, even when they use the same name. You may be unsure which size fits your mattress and duvet, or which momme weight is right for you. Follow this guide to understand what each set includes, measure your bed correctly, compare momme weights, and check silk quality.
Quick Answer:
A silk bedding set does not have a standard list of pieces. Check what is included before buying. Measure your duvet for the duvet cover and your mattress width, length and depth for the fitted sheet. Choose 19 momme for a lighter feel or 22 momme for a denser, heavier feel. Also check that the label says 100% mulberry silk to get a high quality bedding set.

1. What’s Included in a Silk Bedding Set?
There is no standard list of items in a bedding set. The name usually means matching bedding products, but the items can vary by brand, market, and set type.
| Name | Usually included | Usually not included |
|---|---|---|
| Sheet set | Fitted sheet; flat sheet; 1 or 2 pillowcases | Duvet cover and duvet insert |
| Duvet cover set | Duvet cover; 1 or 2 pillowcases or shams | Duvet insert and sheets |
| Comforter set | Comforter; 1 or 2 shams; larger sets may add decorative pieces | Sheets unless they are listed |
The items in a bedding set vary by brand. For example, MommeSilk includes one duvet cover, one fitted sheet and two pillowcases. THXSILK includes a fitted sheet, flat sheet and pillowcase or pillowcases. The number of cases depends on bed size. Some brands offer a “build your own” page. Duvet covers, fitted sheets, flat sheets and pillowcases are selected separately. Check the product page carefully before buying.
Sensoire offers a flexible choice of duvet cover, fitted sheet and flat sheet. You don’t have to buy all three. You can choose any combination of these three pieces. Silk pillowcases are available in the pillowcase collection and must be added separately. You can choose the case size and closure that fit your own pillows.
2. How to Choose the Right Silk Bedding Set Size
Bed names like Double, Queen, and King are useful, but their sizes vary by country. Measure in centimetres instead of choosing by the bed name alone.
Measure the Duvet Insert for Your Silk Duvet Cover

Lay your duvet flat. Measure the width and length. Choose a duvet cover in the same size.
Don’t choose based on mattress size alone. Two people with the same mattress may use different duvet sizes.
Measure the Mattress for Your Silk Fitted Sheet

Measure your mattress width, length, and depth. A fitted sheet that is too shallow may come off the corners. A fitted sheet that is too large may bunch up on the bed.
If you use a mattress topper under the fitted sheet, include its thickness when measuring the mattress depth.
Choose the Right Silk Flat Sheet Size

A flat sheet should be wide and long enough for your bed. Choose the size based on how you use it.
| How you use it | What to measure |
|---|---|
| Tuck it under the mattress | Add extra fabric for both sides, the foot of the bed, and the tuck. |
| Let it hang loosely | Choose how far you want the sheet to hang down on each side. |
3. What Does Momme Mean in Silk Bedding?

Momme is a traditional measure of silk fabric weight. It is closely related to the quality, density, and durability of the final product. Different momme weights create different looks and feels.
| Momme | Pros | Cons | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 19 Momme | Light, soft and breathable | Thinner and more prone to wear | Warm climates and a lighter feel |
| 22 Momme | Balanced weight, shine and durability | Heavier and usually more expensive than 19 momme | Daily use in every season |
| 25 Momme and above | Thick, durable and rich in shine | Heavy and less fluid | A fuller, more luxurious feel |
Choose 19 momme for a lighter, softer drape and a lower price.
Choose 22 momme for a thicker fabric with less transparency and a heavier drape. It is a good choice for bedding you use often.

4. Beyond Momme: Mulberry Silk and Grade 6A Silk Bedding
Mulberry Silk vs Tussah Silk for Bedding

Both types of silk are animal protein fibers. Mulberry silk comes from Bombyx mori silkworms. The silkworms are raised by people and mainly eat mulberry leaves. Tussah silk comes from wild silkworm cocoons. These silkworms are often raised outdoors and mainly eat oak leaves.
After processing, mulberry silk is white, smooth, and soft. Tussah silk keeps a light cream color. It doesn’t feel as smooth or soft as mulberry silk. For more information about mulberry silk, read our guide to mulberry silk.
Check the label to see if it says 100% Mulberry Silk. High-quality products clearly list the materials and their percentages, making them easier to compare with other products.
What Does Grade 6A Mean for Silk Bedding?

Silk grade is one criterion used to assess the raw fibre. It represents the quality of the raw silk fibre before weaving. Grade 6A is commonly used to describe raw mulberry silk of a high grade. It looks at how clean and how long the fibre is. Only high quality Bombyx mori silkworms can produce 6A mulberry silk. The fibres must be long, clean, mostly unbroken, and free from visible impurities.

6. Silk Bedding Set FAQs
What Comes in a Silk Bedding Set?
There is no standard list. A set may include sheets, a duvet cover or pillowcases. It depends on the brand. Sensoire lets you choose a duvet cover, fitted sheet and flat sheet separately. Pillowcases and duvet inserts are sold separately.
Is a Silk Bedding Set Better Than Buying Pieces Separately?
A fixed set makes it easy to create a matching bed. However, some pieces may not meet your needs. Buying separately lets you choose different sizes for your duvet and mattress. You can also skip the flat sheet or choose another pillowcase size. Sensoire supports both simple and complete combinations.
How Do I Choose the Right Size for a Silk Bedding Set?
Match the duvet cover to your duvet insert. Measure the width, length and depth of your mattress before choosing a fitted sheet. For a flat sheet, allow enough fabric for the side drop or mattress tuck you want.
What Momme Weight Should I Look for in Silk Bedding?
Choose 19 momme for a lighter feel and lower price. Choose 22 momme for a denser fabric, less transparency and a heavier feel. Also check the silk material, weave and construction. Do not judge silk quality by momme alone.
How Should I Wash and Care for Silk Bedding?
Most silk bedding should not be machine washed. For small stains, gently hand-wash the affected area with cool water and a mild silk detergent. Do not use bleach, wring the fabric or dry it in strong sunlight. Always check the care label first. Read Sensoire’s silk bedding care guide for detailed instructions.
