Essential Mulberry Silk Cap for Hair

Silk is the fibre. Satin is only a weave, and most bonnets sold as satin are woven polyester. This is the plain version of the real thing: 19 momme mulberry silk, no print, no trim, nothing to pay for except the material doing the work.

The Questions That Come First

Side view of the gathered turban front on an essential silk sleep cap

A gathered front gives where it needs to.

Will it fit

One size, turban front. The gathering across the front gives where it needs to, so the cap holds without a tight band pressing on the forehead.

Gather hair loosely at the crown first. The cap takes shoulder length through mid back hair. Hair past the waist sits better in the Mulberry Silk Cap for Long Hair, which is cut deeper.

Three Steps

How It Stays On

01

Gather, loosely

Hair to the crown, loose rather than tight. That cushion of hair is what the cap sits on.

02

Set it back

Sit the front about a finger's width behind the hairline, not on it.

03

Ease, do not stretch

Work it back over the crown rather than pulling it down. Stretching the edge is what wears a cap out.

One more thing that helps, and it is not the bonnet: cotton grips silk and pulls a cap off through the night. On a silk pillowcase the two surfaces slide instead of catching.

Plain, and entirely silk

Silk, not satin

Satin describes how a fabric is woven, not what it is made of. Most bonnets sold as satin are woven polyester. This one is 100% mulberry silk, a natural protein fibre.

The cheaper caps are usually that polyester. They hold heat against the scalp, and they go limp after a few washes. Silk keeps its hand and its shape, and it does not warm up on the head. That is the difference, and on this cap it is the whole of the difference: no print, no trim, nothing else to pay for.

Momme is how silk is weighed. 19 momme is the working weight for something worn on the head. Our pillowcases go heavier at 22 momme, because a pillowcase is lain on rather than worn.

Does it sleep warm

Polyester holds heat and moisture against the scalp. That is usually why a bonnet gets pulled off at two in the morning.

Mulberry silk is a breathable protein fibre that moves moisture rather than trapping it, so it stays closer to skin temperature. If you sleep hot or wake with night sweats, that is the difference worth paying for.

Washing it

By hand, the gentlest way

Cool water, a mild detergent made for silk or wool, no bleach, no wringing. Press the water out in a towel and line dry away from direct sun.

Can it go in the machine

Yes, with care. A mesh bag, the delicate or wool cycle, cool water, lowest spin. Never tumble dry. It is harder on silk than hand washing and will shorten the life of the cap, but one careful cycle will not ruin it.

What to expect

The first morning

Less tangling, and hair that combs out with fewer catches.

After two to three weeks

This is where people notice condition: smoother ends, less frizz along the lengths.

Where it shows least

A bonnet works by reducing friction. On coarse or short hair that does not tangle much to begin with, the difference will be quieter. That is an honest limit of what silk does.

Good To Know

Your Silk Sleep Cap,
Explained

Clear answers about silk bonnets, overnight hair protection, fit, and care.

01 Is a silk bonnet actually better than a satin one? +

Satin is a weave, not a fibre, and most bonnets sold as satin are woven polyester. Polyester holds heat against the scalp and goes limp after a few washes. Mulberry silk is a natural protein fibre that stays smooth, keeps its shape and does not warm up on the head.

02 Is a silk bonnet worth the money? +

It depends on your hair. If it tangles, frizzes or breaks at the ends, the lower friction of silk shows within a few days. If your hair is coarse or short and does not tangle much to begin with, the difference will be quieter and a simpler cap may serve you just as well.

03 Is a silk cap good for hair? +

Yes. A silk sleep cap can be good for hair because smooth mulberry silk creates a lower-friction surface than many standard pillow fabrics. It helps reduce overnight rubbing, tangles, frizz, and friction-related breakage, especially for long, curly, dry, or color-treated hair.

04 What makes Sensoire silk bonnets different from regular bonnets? +

SENSOIRE silk bonnets are made with premium 100% 19 momme mulberry silk and designed for smooth overnight hair protection. SENSOIRE utilizes an upgraded mulberry silk with antibacterial and anti-mite protection to safeguard your strands, strengthen hair quality, and prevent hair loss.

05 Do I need to wear the bonnet every night? +

You do not have to wear it every night, but regular use gives the best results. Wearing a silk bonnet overnight can help protect hairstyles, reduce morning frizz, and keep long hair, curls, braids, or textured hair smoother between wash days.

06 I have sensitive skin and allergies—is silk safe for me? +

Mulberry silk is naturally smooth and gentle against the skin, and this sleep cap is listed with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification. If you have very sensitive skin or a known textile allergy, test the fabric briefly first and follow your usual care guidance.

07 How do I wash my silk sleep cap without damaging it? +

Hand wash your silk sleep cap in cold water with a mild detergent. Do not bleach, twist, or tumble dry. Rinse gently, press out excess water with a towel, and line dry away from direct heat to help preserve the silk’s smooth feel.
